Abstract:
Technological advances in the field of capturing techniques along with the rise of computing power enabled to utilize the high resolution, radiometrically realistic 3-dimensional representation of the complicated artefacts for their documentation, analysis and presentation at once. The involvement of 3-dimensional object digitisation in cultural heritage care projects is becoming more advantageous.
The sophisticated reconstruction algorithms of photogrammetric software allowed us to employ a single camera image data along with image sets made by a unique robotic multi-camera 360° photographic systems into one 3D calculation procedure.
Huge source datasets of highest quality images may be obtained without spending significant amount of time or requiring extensive manipulation with fragile objects.
Our presentation is focused on the case study of using a new, cutting edge photogrammetrical tool “RealityCapture” software package. The whole process, explaining the complications that may occur during mapping of various anisotropic surfaces, starting with capturing methods and ending with the final 3D model presentation of two medieval wooden polychrome sculptures is presented. Obtained results are compared to previously used methods to highlight the outcomes of our approach. Geometrically veracious 3D models of polychromed works of art offers a wide range of application possibilities.
Certain modification of the model is almost inevitable, because available options of interactive presentation (web, AR) are mostly associated with significant restrictions for large data sets distribution and processing.
We therefore propose a model systematization within the interactive object documentation. Multiresolution model, pre-built animations, written facts, historical documents and other research information may be employed into single interactive documentation suited for the general public along with CH expert presentation at the same time.
