The session is dedicated to the international legal protection of cultural property, mainly:

  • Illicit traffic and restitution (primarily in peace time), the 1970 UNESCO and 1995 UNIDROIT Conventions
  • Protection in the event of armed conflict starting from the 1899 and 1907 Hague Conventions through the 1935 Washington Treaty to the 1954 Hague Convention and its two 1954 and 1999 Protocols
    The session should focus on issues such as the adoption of peacetime safeguarding measures for the protection of cultural property, preparation of national inventories of movable and immovable cultural property, establishment of specialized personnel for the protection of cultural property, measures related to respect for cultural property and penal measures. The follow-up of this session can focus on concrete cases
