The role of 3D models in spatial-related heritage communication Spatial-related heritage communication and knowledge transfer often use cartographic presentation methods and tools. Not only in this context three dimensional models seem to play a prominent part to support professional as well as unaware knowledge transfer and communication processes – thus among experts and from experts to laymen. One reason for this prominence may be a low grade of abstraction, comparing with ground plans and upright projection. Although this low grade of abstraction may be a reason for the wide spread usage of these models and presentation methods, some adapting processes within visualisation have to be made due to presentation form, chosen interface hard- and software and importance of specific parts within the model.
Prospective thoughts to a world virtual heritage center should take considerations of purposive communication processes, usable interfaces, data and format structuring as well as sustainability aspects into account. On one hand it is essential to enhance recording and modeling procedures in order to receive high quality contents, on the other the usage of recorded data, the aim of the starting communication process and the virtue of a certain presentation method has to be evaluated to obtain an effective and expressive success.
On the basis of preceding views this paper tries to find the supporting aspects, peculiarities and quality definitions of 3D models for spatial-related heritage discussion and dissemination by use of multimedia cartographic presentation forms. There exists the hypothesis that the quality and impact of spatial-related heritage communication is widely influenced by specific peculiarities and quality issues of 3D models in transporting the right information.

Aim: “To find the supporting aspects, peculiarities and quality definitions of 3D models for spatial-related heritage discussion and dissemination.”
Question: What peculiarities of 3D models take influence on the spatial-related heritage communication?
Hypothesis:The quality and impact of spatial-related heritage communication is widely influenced by specific peculiarities and quality issues of 3D models, which transport information.
