26 years old! From Teenager to Twen!
Who’d have thunk it? (Yes… “thunk” is a real word;)
On November 13th 1996 the first event took place in the former Data Centre of Vienna City Department for Information and Communication Technology.
This event was named firstly “Workshop Archäologie und Computer” and was hosted in this building until 2000. 65 colleagues from Austria, Germany and Switzerland attended this first workshop.
The conference grew and therefore we had to change the conference venue to the Wappensaalgruppe in the Vienna City Hall in 2001.
In 2003 the Urban Archaeology organised a joined conference in cooperation with CAA, ECAI, “USIPP Com 4” and “AG Computeranwendungen und Quantitative Methoden”. “Enter the Past – The E-way into the four dimensions of Cultural Heritage” was a really big successwith more than 500 participants.
More than 4500 colleagues from more than 80 countries have visited CHNT up to now!
The first papers of CHNT (formerly “Workshop Archaeologie & Computer”) were published as Xerox in April 1997.
Since “Workshop 3 Archaeologie and Computer” the proceedings were published as CD-rom.
The only printed version appeared 2003 – Enter the Past.
Starting with CHNT 14 2009 the local organising committee of CHNT publishes the proceedings as e-Book for free download.
But this is a another story.
