I started my education with a Bachelor degree in archaeology and conservation of cultural heritage at the University of Ca’Foscari in Venice (Italy). After my BA, which provided me a strong and very broad knowledge basis in the principles and theories of cultural heritage studies as well as insides into different time periods and cultures, I decided to specialize in new technologies applied to archaeology. This decision brought me to Sweden for three years, where I acquired my MA at the University of Lund, in which I received training in various methods and tools related to new technology such as GIS, Image Based Modelling, 3D modelling, laser scanning and RTI. Following my MA I won a research grant by the C.M. Lerici foundation in Stockholm, which funded a research project that I carried out in six months as a research assistant at Lund University.
During my time in Sweden I developed a keen interest in the use of 3D models as means to generate new knowledge and to facilitate interpretation and understanding of cultural heritage. Besides working with software specialized in the visualization and analysis of 3D data, I have been investigating different ways to use 3D models in a 3D GIS environment.
I am continuing the work within my research interests at my current position as research assistant at STARC, a research centre dedicated to Science and Technology in Archaeology at the Cyprus Institute in Nicosia (Cyprus). At the beginning of 2018, I was accepted for a joint PhD programme between and the University of Ghent (Belgium) and the Cyprus Institute, where I continue my work as a research assistant. In my PhD project I will focus on the investigation of Cypriot-Minoan writing with 3D technologies.
