Abstract:
Seka Paper Mill which has been a symbol for transformation of Kocaeli district into an industrial centre in Turkey. After abandoned in 1950s it has been turned into a museum where Seka heritages has been preserved. It is one of the few successful examples in Turkey in its kind. The Museum therefore has an extraordinary visual quality with its architectural characteristics and mechanical installations that are transformed into exhibition areas with minimum interventions. This study is on visualizing tangible heritage values in Seka as a part of the project carried on by Seka Museum and Kocaeli University Faculty of Fine Arts. Authenticity of Museum has been recorded by students of photography who were trained in the field of image production from different perspectives. The images were produced from spatial elements of the museum where public area was turned into an art object. In order to understand visitors’ reaction to digital images produced by art students, a photograph exhibition named “One City One Place” was held in december 2017. Another sub-goal of the project has different aim. The old photos obtained from Museum’s archives that are representations of object and architectural elements from past were reproduced as up-to-date images with the same visual angles. Since these photos will also be used to evaluate the users-visitors perception, this digital reproduction experience provides valuable data to develop augmented reality applications for the museum.
