(The Police Inspectorate of Alba County, Alba Julia, Romania)

The present paper deal with the results of a forensic experiment realized in an archaeological site: Sarmizegetusa Regia, the center of the Dacian Kingdom (I BC – I A.C. century), who belong to the UNESCO list of the world cultural heritage monuments. Unfortunately, the human factor (poachers) has always represented the most significant danger to the integrity of the cultural heritage, causing immense, irreparable damage. Archaeological poaching represents an extremely frequent offence in Romania, especially after 1989, once the state-of-the-art metal detectors have been introduced. In 2000, archaeological unauthorized detections and excavations in the site of Sarmisegetusa Regia (in the Orastie Mountains, Hunedoara County), realized by the archaeological poaching teams, have discovered an unusual archaeological context: a pit with ten golden multi spiraled bracelets inside. The artifacts where does the object of the illegal traffic with cultural goods, and now, the Romanian state is in the situation to recover them. Meantime a penal dossier is in course of progression. For the normal evolution of this dossier, all proves must to be verified by the experts and forensic specialists. That is the object of the so called “forensic archaeology” experiment, realized by the author “in situ”, situated near to the “holly area” of the ancient capital of Dacia. Using modern methods (archaeological and forensic) many important information where obtained, every small detail being essential for the forensic reconstruction of the context and for the historical interpretation of this.
