Abstract:
Nowadays it becomes more and more important for – but not only for – smaller memory organisations to be visible in the world wild web. Having single institutional home pages is only one way – and not the best anymore. Looking for specific cultural information leads to thousands of hints coming back from search engines. This is not quite satisfying – not for the user and not for the organisation.
A good alternative or better to say add-on to singular home pages is the creation of a portal where for instance all smaller museums of a region are participating in. That is not to say, that every region or museum association needs to build its own portal from the scratch, but using existing solutions with high flexibility in data schema and general content offers good alternatives to individual solutions. Therefore we intend to offer a flexible import routine to upload any metadata formats including pictures that later on will be used for search and retrieval in a portal. Offering a kind of standard portal look&feel with a highly flexible and powerful index based search in combination with overall information about the organisations and even about the region leads to a much higher visibility for single institutions.
In the presentation I will introduce the concept and technology not only in a theoretical way but as already working solution.
