Abstract:
The paper will describe the multimedia exhibits developed by our company, ETT s.p.a., for the “MAGNA CARTA Rediscovered” traveling exhibition, celebrating the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta, The exhibition, commissioned by Visit Kent and inaugurated on 23rd May 2015, is focused on the Faversham issue, written in 1300, that will be transported on a six-stage journey through southern England, taking in Faversham, Canterbury, Maidstone, Dover, Rochester and Sandwich, allowing visitors to discover the history and the characters involved in Magna Carta. The objective was provide the exhibition with tools to communicate the meaning and the historical value of the Magna Carta in an engaging and interactive way, and to promote the tourism in the area with a travelling structure that can be easily moved in the most significant cities of the county. Exhibition, divided into four theme areas, is enhanced by several touch screen applications, that are not only focused on the story but also presents the main figures involved in the negotiations on 15th June 1215, during which King John was forced to cede powers to the barons of his kingdom. Visitors can see where other copies of the document are, how it was written, and the overall impact it has had. A role-play game enables visitor to play as an historical figure, like the King John or the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Besides, they can interact by writing a clause for the 2015 Magna Carta, addressing issues of global relevance such as cyber security, mass surveillance and privacy, big data, human rights and climate change. The exhibition has obtained very good feedbacks from visitor since from the first days, and contributed to promote an important tangible cultural heritage asset through an engaging and learning experience.
