Liebe Teilnehmerin und Teilnehmer!
Herzlich Willkommen zur 12. Internationalen Tagung „Kulturelles Erbe und neue Technologien“ im Wiener Rathaus! Drei interessante, und hoffentlich ergebnisreiche Tage stehen uns bevor, für die ich Ihnen gutes Gelingen wünschen darf.
Das diesjährige Thema lautet „Managing uncertainty: progress in archaeological research and heritage management“. Neben zwei Vortragssektionen beschäftigen sich sechs Workshops und ein Tutorium u. a. mit Standards, Interpretation und Dokumentation. Neben technischen Fragestellungen sind kirchliche Institutionen aus dem ganzen europäischen Raum, dieses Jahr bereits zum zweiten Mal, mit einem Workshop vertreten. Weiters werden auch länderübergreifend Probleme des Datenaustausches und der Harmonisierung von Kulturportalen diskutiert.
Kollegen/innen aus osteuropäischen Länder stellen schon seit Jahren einen beachtlichen Anteil nicht nur an Vortragenden sondern auch an Teilnehmern/innen unserer Tagung. Daher lag es nahe, diesmal einen besonderen Schwerpunkt auf die Situation des Schutzes des Kulturellen Erbes in zwei der neuen Mitgliedsstaaten der Europäischen Union – Bulgarien und Rumänien – zu legen.

Welcome to the 12th international meeting on “cultural heritage and new technologies” in the Vienna City Hall. We look forward to three interesting and eventful days and I would like to wish you the best of success for the meeting. This year’s topic is “managing uncertainty: progress in archaeological research and heritage management”. The programme includes two modules with lectures, six workshops and a tutorial which deal with standards, interpretation and documentation. In addition to the technical discussions, church institutions from all over Europe join one of the workshops already for the second time. We will also discuss cross-border problems in data exchange and how to best harmonise culture portals.
Colleagues from Eastern European countries have held lectures and participated in our meetings for many years. It is therefore a matter of course that this year we also want to focus on the current situation of cultural heritage protection in the two new EU member states Bulgaria and Romania.
