Our paper is proposing the use of modern technologies to the purpose of turning to the best account the information offered by the archaeological research of the ruins of the Princely Court of Targsoru Vechi, whose construction was initiated by Voivode Mircea cel Batran at the end of the 14th century and continued by his grandson Vlad Tepes (the Impaler) in the 15th century. Starting from the data provided by the archaeological research concerning the component parts of the mediaeval architecture complex – the precinct wall, the princely residence, the church, etc. – their building structure, the building materials, etc., we are proposing a computerised virtual reconstruction of the respective mediaeval complex and the creation of a virtually approachable three-dimensional space, under the present circumstances of impossible restoration of the monuments. Our endeavour may represent a first step of a de facto restoration project.
The aim of our project is to attract young people’s attention in particular, our target age range, to the perspectives offered by the archaeological research and its subsequent use for the restoration of archaeological and historic monuments, by means of the new technologies, and to stimulate the young architects and building engineers’ interest in the field of monuments restoration, which is rather low at present, not only in Romania.
