Chair: Willem Beex, The Netherlands

This session is intended for all of us who also want to work with historical and graphical information from long past observations of their site or working area. Certainly as we should be able nowadays, to geo-reference any plan, sketch, map, or photo with just a few clicks… And as we are able to test historical references. But are we able to incorporate a picture from 1890 into our present day stratigraphy? Are we able to insert old sketches? Are we able to incorporate a description in a text from 1500 AD? And what is the value of any old description or plan from 1650, or from the archaeologist of the 1920’s? I want to ask everyone who has dealt with this problem and who has a very clear opinion or solution, to come forward and present his or her idea.

During this 12th conference in Vienna we ought to/should be able to create a useful ‘guideline’ for some of these answers. But it will happen, as usual, only with your contribution.
