Abstract:
The aim of this poster is to provide its readers with a substantial but yet critical analysis of the monumental topography of Mesembria. Due to the longitude of the historical continuity –starting since at least the 12th c BC according to excavations-, the focus of the analysis will be restrained to the ancient era-with a reference to the Roman period- while data for later periods will be referred epigrammatically. Furthermore, the main part will comprise of monumental topographic data and cultural evidence of the Thracian-pre Greek era- as well as data for the Greek colonization period. The main part shall contain a brief history-chronologically evolving. More specifically, there will be several thematic sections: presentation of the ancient Thracian findings, fortification-walls and ports, urban planning, cultural evidence, trade evidence, cults and religion, coinage and findings of the necropolis. For better comprehension, rich documentation of corresponding pictures shall be attached within the text. Conclusions and remarks at the final part of the essay should provide of an overview. It is a very comprehensive research that collects the latest data (2014) and pictures and demonstrates the cultural continuity from the Thracian era (until 8th c BC) to the Greek colonization period (since 8th BC) with some data of the Roman era.
